Dr. Markowitz is a fellowship-trained spine surgeon specializing in minimally invasive and complex spine surgery. After graduating from Stony Brook University in NY, Dr. Markowitz earned his medical degree at Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Stratford, NJ. He went on to complete an orthopedic surgery residency at Jefferson Health NJ, and then completed his spine surgery fellowship at the Texas Back Institute in Dallas, TX. While in fellowship, he specialized in motion preservation spine surgery.

Dr. Markowitz has been active in teaching and research throughout his career. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles, textbook chapters, and presented his work nationally. Additionally, he is an active member of the North American Spine Society and Society of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery. 

His practice at New York Spine Specialist encompasses a wide range of spinal conditions to include both traumatic and degenerative conditions of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. His training allows him to tailor treatment recommendations to each patient’s specific needs. It is important to Dr. Markowitz to treat each patient as if they are a part of his family with the goal of returning them to the lifestyle they enjoy.

In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, running, and playing soccer

Scott and Mary Boden M.D. Research Grant. Presented for top abstract submission at the Eastern Orthopedic Association. A Novel Multimodal Postoperative Pain Protocol for 1-2 Level Open Lumbar Fusions: A retrospective cohort study.

Howard Hughes Medical Institute Summer Research Grant. Designed and created experiments to map the topography of glutamate receptor channel gating kinetics.

2009

URECA Summer Research Grant.

Research focused on glutamate, the major excitatory neurotransmitter in the mammalian central nervous system and its receptor subtypes.
