Foot and ankle pain, injuries, arthritis, and structural problems can make it difficult to walk, exercise, work, or participate in the activities you enjoy. At New York and New Jersey Spine and Orthopedics, we provide comprehensive foot and ankle care, including advanced nonsurgical treatment and surgical options for both common and complex conditions.
Our goal is to identify the source of your symptoms, develop an individualized treatment plan, and help you move comfortably and confidently again.
From acute sports injuries and fractures to chronic ankle instability, arthritis, tendon disorders, deformities, and complex reconstructive needs, our team provides personalized care based on each patient’s condition, goals, activity level, and lifestyle.
Whenever appropriate, treatment may begin with conservative, nonsurgical approaches. When surgery is necessary, we take the time to help patients understand the recommended procedure, expected recovery, potential risks and benefits, and what they can realistically expect throughout the recovery process.
Our approach to foot and ankle care includes:
Associate Member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons
Diplomate of the American Board of Podiatric Medicine
Fellow of the American College of Podiatric Medicine
Dr. Avik Mukherjee is a fellowship-trained foot and ankle surgeon with advanced training in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of foot and ankle conditions. He is board certified by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine (ABPM) and is board qualified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ABFAS) in foot surgery and reconstructive rearfoot/ankle surgery.
With a particular focus on foot and ankle trauma and complex reconstructive surgery, Dr. Mukherjee treats conditions ranging from acute injuries and fractures to chronic instability, tendon disorders, arthritis, and structural deformities. He also provides comprehensive care for conditions involving the forefoot, midfoot, hindfoot, and ankle for patients of all ages.
Dr. Mukherjee believes treatment should be individualized rather than based on a one-size-fits-all approach. When appropriate, care begins with nonsurgical treatment. If surgery is recommended, he works closely with patients to explain the procedure, recovery process, potential risks and benefits, and realistic expectations for returning to activity.
“My goal is to help you move better, feel better, and get back to the activities you love.”
– Dr. Avik Mukherjee
Our foot and ankle specialist evaluates and treats a broad range of acute injuries, chronic conditions, structural deformities, tendon disorders, fractures, and degenerative conditions.
Foot and ankle injuries can occur during sports, exercise, work, motor vehicle accidents, falls, or everyday activities. While some injuries respond well to conservative care, others may require surgical treatment to restore stability, alignment, or function.
Conditions treated include:
Structural abnormalities of the foot and ankle may cause pain, difficulty walking, problems with footwear, instability, or progressive changes in alignment. Treatment is based on the type and severity of the deformity, symptoms, functional limitations, and individual patient goals.
We treat:
For patients with more advanced structural problems, reconstructive procedures may be considered when appropriate to address alignment, stability, pain, and function.
Arthritis can affect several joints throughout the foot and ankle, potentially causing pain, stiffness, swelling, reduced mobility, and difficulty with everyday activities. Degenerative conditions may develop gradually or occur following a previous injury.
Our team evaluates and treats:
Treatment may include both nonoperative and surgical options, depending on the affected joint, severity of degeneration, symptoms, activity level, and individual goals.
Not every foot or ankle condition requires surgery. Treatment recommendations are developed after a comprehensive evaluation and are tailored to the individual patient.
When appropriate, nonsurgical care may be considered before surgery. For injuries, deformities, arthritis, instability, or other conditions that do not adequately improve with conservative treatment-or when the nature of the condition requires operative care-surgical treatment may be recommended.
The goal is to choose an approach that addresses the underlying condition while helping the patient work toward improved mobility, function, and quality of life.
Consider scheduling an evaluation if you experience persistent or worsening foot or ankle symptoms, particularly when they interfere with walking, work, exercise, sports, or other daily activities.
An evaluation may be appropriate for symptoms such as ongoing foot or ankle pain, swelling, repeated ankle sprains, instability, difficulty bearing weight, reduced range of motion, progressive deformity, tendon pain, or persistent symptoms following an injury.
Early evaluation can help determine the cause of your symptoms and identify appropriate treatment options.
If a foot or ankle injury, deformity, arthritis, or chronic condition is affecting your mobility or quality of life, schedule an evaluation with Dr. Avik Mukherjee and the team at New York and New Jersey Spine and Orthopedics.
We provide individualized foot and ankle care for patients at our locations across New York and New Jersey, with treatment options ranging from nonsurgical management to advanced foot and ankle surgery and complex reconstruction.
